Another Book that changed my world view

Silas Marner by George Eliot

Penguin Classics

This book suggested to me by a friend, when I was in very confused mind as to what to do with my life. I was very much used to get irritated with the presence of kids around me. This book deals with the industrialization and its effect on human relations and human psyche in general.

The story goes like this Silas Marner a weaver gets engaged to a girl, later he is found guilty of killing a person for money his fiance breaks the engagement and Silas Marner leaves his village and settles in a far away place, with his disturbing mind lives the secluded life in his weaving world. His life now is attached to money he earns in weaving. He loses his dear gold and once again in his world of losing, then enters a baby girl. How the baby changes his life is the story of this classic.

When the book was suggested to me I started reading frankly speaking as an obligation. But by the time I completed reading the book, I know that book came to me as a boon and know what I want to do. One paragraph that shook me thoroughly, I would like to share with you all

“In old days there were angels who came and took men by the hand and led them away from the city of destruction. We see no white-winged angels now. But yet men are led away from threatening destruction: a hand is put into theirs, which leads them forth gently towards a calm and bright land, so that they look no more backward; and the hand may be a little child's.” p.160

The book lasted such an impact, when ever I feel dejected I read the book, which brings me back my normal sense.

I hope you will enjoy reading the book.
