Tribute to Teachers

In the metro page of The Hindu, dt.02/09/2013 views of readers regarding portraying of teachers in movies made me write this. 5th September being the Teachers day (in India) I am writing my reflections based on my experience.

I was in school my father took me out for a walk. We met one elderly person, my father greeted him and spoke to him after the person left my father asked me why didn't greet the person? My answer was I don’t know him why should I greet? He just gave me reasons to greet a person. I greet people on my own even today.

That was my first day in school. The teacher asked the class to keep all the homework notebooks and asked those who didn't submit to stand up. I had normal excuse I joined today. The teacher told me you should have asked in the beginning of the day regarding the day’s schedule should have reported the same instead of waiting for the teacher to point out. I am shown the door. That was the first punishment I got and I always inquired about the day’ schedule after that. The teacher was my father.

I did face wrath of teachers as my body language given them the impression in a different manner.  During higher education I realized the other side of the teachers, but that didn't change my view and regards for teachers.  But even today the question troubles me is why do they behave like that?

During my Library Science I really enjoyed being a student trained under the eminent teachers. I really enjoyed the student days during this period. I learnt humility here form my teacher being gentle along with scholarship known for his work, when he gave task for assessment I submitted one with good quality but he raised certain points where I felt I due to complacent attitude neglected in my work. I felt bad and I submitted one with much better quality. The way he shown my mistake made to learn.

I take this opportunity to thank all my teachers who taught me various shades of life, that made me to believe in the lifelong learning as a way of life.
