Writing stories that are already known

The Fisher Queen’s Dynasty by Kavita Kane

When I see the books that deal with mythology and stories related to characters of epics, I think before I venture in to buying those books. For the simple reason if I get to know anything new or if the books is going to be interesting. Fortunately I happened to listen to the author during Banglaore Lit Fest 2017 and bought the book. When I was reading the book, though the base story is known, the author made the reading interesting.

The battle of Kurukshetra, which is fought between Kauravas and Pandavas, whose lineage begins with the story of Satyavati or Matsyagandhi. Various aspects of Satyavati as a daughter of chief of fisher community and her longing to be a queen etc., as a wife and queen how she tries to get reins of power in the political game and as a mother of kids whose death shatters her. And the need to continue lineage to hold the kingdom what she plans. Her relationship with Bhishm, who holds the enormous power due to his valour etc., are highlighted in a manner that made me hook to the book.
